Logan's Assessment Center will host a Clinic Jumpstart Activity on Friday, February 7th between 11:05am and 12:00pm. 

Activities include a history taking demo, a shoulder ultrasound and discussion of management.

All are invited to attend. 

Logan Will Attend Wheelchair Rugby Tournament


Dr. Connie Hayes and Logan interns will be attending the Lakeshore Demolition Derby Wheelchair Rugby Tournament on January 31st through February 2nd. 

Dr. Hayes and the students will provide triage and performance enhancement for the team.

Hare in the Air Egg Hunt Information

Date: Saturday, March 29, 2014
Time: Registration at 10 a.m. - Bunny arrives at 11 a.m.

Event Information:
  • The egg hunts are for children ages 2-8. 
  • Egg hunt areas are divided by age groups: 
    • 2 year olds 
    • 3 year olds 
    • 4-5 year olds 
    • 6-8 year olds 
    • Older children may attend the event and enjoy the other activities, but may not participate in egg hunts
  • Activities 
    • Petting zoo 
    • Costumed characters (DARE McGruff; Bunny; Super Chiro Man) 
    • Balloon Artists 
    • Fire Truck 
    • Temporary Tattoos
  • You will need to arrive prior to the Bunny arrival to register your child in the age appropriate hunt 
  • Bring a basket or bag for your child to collect eggs in 
  • No parents will be allowed in the hunt areas; there will be volunteers to assist children during the hunts
  • The Bunny will be available for photos 
  • The event is outside and will be held regardless of the weather, dress appropriately

10 IRCIMH Scholarships – Apply by February 9

The Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM) is offering 10 complimentary registrations for students to attend the International Research Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health, May 13-16, 2014 in Miami.

What is and is not covered:  
This complimentary registration is for the 3-day Congress. Pre-Congress Workshops on Tuesday, May 13 and travel expenses incurred to attend the Congress are not covered by the registration and are the responsibility of the attendee.

How to apply:  
Interested parties should send a resume (if available) and up to 500 word application stating: 1) name, school, year in school; 2) description of past and future interests in research; 3) why they are interested in attending; and 4) contact information.

VA Selects Logan University for Chiropractic Residency Program

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has selected Logan University as one of five schools which will participate in their Chiropractic Residency Program. 

The Chiropractic Care Residency Program will provide organized post graduate training to develop chiropractors prepared for advanced practice, capable of communicating and working in an interdisciplinary environment, with a firm understanding of the role of research and continuing education in clinical decision making.

Dr. Larry Hutti

It is with great sadness that we notify the Logan community of the passing of longtime faculty member, Dr. Larry Hutti.

Dr. Hutti was a graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic Class of 1951, ran a private practice for 30 years and later became a Professor at Logan College and President of the Alumni Association. He was a Permanent Deacon ordained in 1981 and served at Ascension Catholic Church in Chesterfield for 23 years. The College, its students, faculty, and staff held a special place in his heart as he did in all of ours. He will be missed.

Please keep Dr. Hutti’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Welcome to the St. Louis Health Care Baldrige Community of Excellence Group!

On Thursday, January 23rd, health care leaders from around the St. Louis metropolitan area will attend the St. Louis Health Care Baldrige Community of Excellence LAUNCH Meeting here on the Logan campus.  The guest speaker will be Dean Kappel of Mid-America Transplant Services who is the current Chairman of the Excellence in Missouri Foundation.  In 2010, Mid-America Transplant Services received the Missouri Quality Award. 



Severe Weather False Alarm - January 21st

Despite clear and sunny skies, the St. Louis County severe weather sirens were activated on Tuesday afternoon. According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the sirens were triggered due to a computer glitch and there is no severe weather in the area.

Assistance Needed for a Research Study

Dr. Alicia M. Yochum is recruiting 25 participants for her research study investigating the relationship of altered biomechanics (pronation) to bone marrow edema and pain in the joints of the lower extremity, the sacroiliac joints and the joints of the lower lumbar spine.

 

Students will receive $100 for their time, extra credit in various classes and two educational DVDs at the completion of the study. A sign-up sheet is available in the Department of Radiology, and the first 12 females and 13 males to qualify will be included in the study. You must be between 20-30 years old, have a normal BMI and be willing to restrict running to 10 miles/week. This study will last a total of six weeks (four weeks in pronation and two weeks for follow up.  Please contact Dr. Yochum in the radiology department at 636-230-1834 or alicia.yochum@logan.edu.

Ellen Dickman, MLS, Elected to Executive Board of the St. Louis Metro Area Chapter of the Special Libraries Association

Congratulations to Ellen Dickman, MLS, director of the learning resources center at Logan. She was elected to the Executive Board of the St. Louis Metro Area Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and will serve as Treasurer. SLA has more than 100 members locally and supports corporate, academic and government librarians through learning, advocacy and networking initiatives.

2013 Graduate Dr. Mark Elam Wins Graduate Package at Parker Seminars Vegas

Dr. Mark Elam, a 2013 Logan University graduate, won the Graduate Package at the Parker Seminars held in Las Vegas between January 9th and 11th. Dr. Elam was selected from a drawing of thousands of recent chiropractic graduates. He'll receive $12,000 worth of chiropractic essentials from four of the largest companies in the industry: Foot Levelers Inc, Lloyd Table Company, Activator Methods International and Multi Radiance Medical Laser Longevity.

Dr. Elam commented on the award, saying:
"I'm humbled and honored to receive this gift from these four great companies. It takes some of the fear out of going into the 'real world.' With these four companies offering their guidance, I feel a lot more secure."

Health Center Lab Services Update

January 09, 2014

In order to maximize health center efficiency, laboratory services provided in-house at Logan University's Montgomery Health Center will be suspended indefinitely after January 31st.

It is possible that these services will resume at some point in the future. Logan Chiropractic Health Center patients requiring lab services will be sent to one of the many LabCorp draw stations located in the St. Louis area, with results sent to our respective clinics.

Congratulations to Jennifer Reed, director of marketing and public relations.  Jennifer has been nominated to serve on the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors beginning in January 2014.  This is an exciting opportunity for Logan to have a representative, as the Chesterfield Chamber has great influence on the city and region.



Logan University is Attending the International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

Dr. Hayes and interns will represent Logan University’s BIOFREEZE® Sports and Rehabilitation Center at the International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament in Tampa Bay, FL January 10-12. The January, 2014 issue of InTouch has been posted on the Logan website.

In Touch is a bibliography of citations of interest that is produced four times a year by the Logan University Library. This bibliography contains the reference for 40-60 journal articles published recently in various health related journals. Some of the journals frequently referenced include: Spine, JMPT, Journal of Musculoskeletal Medicine, American Journal of Orthopedics, Neurology, Radiology, Lancet, Nutritional Perspectives, and Clinical Biomechanics. 

Parking Announcement

Parking lots 9 East and 9 West are now designated for Faculty and Staff between the hours of 6:00am and 3:00pm.

Students are welcome to park in these locations outside of the posted times.

Reduced LRC Hours on January 7th, 2014

The Learning Resource Center will have reduced hours on Tuesday, January 7th.

The library will close at 4 PM and the computer lab will close at 7 PM.

The LRC will open at 6:30am on Wednesday, the 8th.

ABCA Central Regional Conference - Register by 1/10


The American Black Chiropractic Association's Central Regional Conference will be hosted by Logan University and the Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA) on January 17th and 18th. Held on the Logan campus, the event will feature numerous guest speakers such as Dr. Michael Wittmer, Dr. Edgar Everett, Dr. Brian Snyder, Dr. John Artis, Dr. Frank Vaught and Dr. Connie Hayes.

Montgomery Health Center, BIOFREEZE® Sports & Rehabilitation Center, Southfield Health Center, Bogey Hills Health Center, 79 Crossing Health Center, St. Patrick Center and Paraquad will be closed on Tuesday, January 7th for Clinicians Training Day.
